Special Steels provides a quality heat treatment and metallurgical service through our associate company Quality Heat Treatment Ltd. Quality Heat Treatrment was formed 4 years ago and has developed into one of New Zealand's leading contract heat treaters.
Our company heat treats a wide variety of components for engineering firms, tool makers and major companies throughout the country, manufacturing plastic, aluminium, iron and steel products. Together with associate companies Special Steels and Metals Ltd and Viking Steels, we offer a one stop shop with traceability from material supply to fully heat treated component.
Services Heat treatment services include; Fluidised bed furnaces Tempering furnaces Oil, water and air blast quenching Pack annealing Ion / Plasma Vacuum Furnace (Pulsed Plasma) Fluid Bed Cold Quench (>6 bar over pressure quench rate) Cryogenic / Sub Zero Treatment ( up to -170 Degrees C )

Processes The processes we offer cover hardening, tempering, stress relieving, sub-zero treatment, annealing, normalising, solution treatment, carburising/ case hardening, precipitation hardening, nitriding, ion/ plasma nitriding, carbo-nitriding, ferritic nitro-carburising, austenitic nitro-carburising,de-embrittlement. Hardness testing and metallographic examination.
We use efficient Fluidised Bed Furnaces with inert / neutral atmosphere protection for decarb. and oxidation-free surfaces. Inert alumina sand with no environmental pollution Electric heating - non-polluting, renewable energy

Delivery Lead Times The recent addition of NEW computer controlled furnaces now allow us to offer QUICK TURNAROUND TIMES on heat treatment of steels,with the exception of high speed steels at this stage. Hardening and Tempering parameters can be tailored to material manufacturer's specification or clients specific instructions.
There is no need for clients to hold back work for weekend processing.
